Read books and meet up with like minded people to unpack, debrief and learn more about Indigenous content.

(This event is a 4-Week Series)
Did you know …Historically, in North America, Indigenous people were taught that they were ‘less than’ at the same time non-Indigenous people were taught the same thing, that Indigenous people were ‘less than’. What did that do to our society and what each of our own biases are today about Indigenous people?
Join us in a book club, reading a powerful story that illuminates the disparities within Winnipeg history, the tragedies of the Child Welfare System and the behind the scenes stories that the media doesn’t tell you. Meet like-minded people to unpack and debrief this captivating story, facilitated by Karen MacAulay founder of indigecation , so that you can have better informed conversations that will allow you understand on a deeper level what is happening in our own communities while dismantling stereotypes.
The book: In Search of April Raintree , is about two Métis sisters who were born into a home where alcoholism prevailed. There is a common myth that Indigenous people are born with genetics that make them ‘all alcoholics’, but is it true? The reality is that there are issues that linger related to the effects of intergenerational trauma and the effects of the residential school systems. In the book, the sisters April and Cheryl are shaped by their different experiences as they grow up which demonstrates how societal pressures affect their identity as each search of ‘where’ they belong.
